Well-known actor, film director, producer, comedian and singer Eddie Murphy was born on December 3, 1961 in Brooklyn, New York. Eddie Murphy’s mother, Lillian, worked as a telephone operator, while his father ‘Charles Edward Murphy’ worked as transport police officer and pursued hobby of stand-up comedian. Murphy’s father left their family when Murphy was three year old. Unfortunately ‘Charles Edward Murphy’ was stabbed to death at the time Murphy was only eight year old. Murphy and his brother Charlie grew up in Roosevelt, New York supported by his mother and stepfather Vernon Lynch, His step father worked as a foreman at an ice cream plant.
Eddie’s exceptional talent was evident from an early age, approximately at the age of 15, Murphy started script writing and performing at the Roosevelt High School and other local bars. As a youngster Murphy was deeply influenced by Bill Cosby and Richard Pryor.
In the early 1980s, at the age of 19, Murphy was offered an agreement on behalf of the “Not Ready For Prime-Time Players” of "Saturday Night Live" (1975).Murphy made his first feature film debut in ‘48 Hrs’ (1982). However it was ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ (1984) that made Murphy a box-office superstar and a celebrity worldwide. ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ became all-time major domestic blockbusters in motion-picture record. Now like all big stars Murphy started receiving his share of criticism, controversy, scandal, and of course, respect of millions for his talent.
Most of Eddie Murphy’s cinema is meant for mature audiences. Eddie Murphy starred in the motion picture version of the Broadway melodic ‘Dreamgirls’ as spirit vocalist James "Thunder" In 2006. This role brought Murphy widespread acclaim and flurry of Awards including Golden Globe, Broadcast Film Critics Association and Screen Actors Guild Award for best supporting actor for the year 2006. Eddie Murphy was also nominated for an ‘Oscar’ under ‘Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role’ category for his work in Dreamgirls.
Murphy had a transient relationship with vocalist Lorraine Pearson, the British singer associated with pop group ‘Five Star’. Thereafter Murphy was associated with vocalist Whitney Houston for some time before he dated Nicole Mitchell. Murphy and Nicole lived jointly for one and a half year before getting married at the Grand Ballroom of ‘The Plaza Hotel’ in New York City on March 18, 1993. Their marriage lasted for 12 years. In August 2005 Mitchell filed divorce, citing "incompatible differences" with Eddie Murphy. The divorce was finalized on April 17, 2006.
Soon after separating from Mitchell, Eddie Murphy dated Pop diva Melanie Brown of ‘Spice Girls’, who allegedly got pregnant by Murphy. Brown delivered a baby girl on June 22, 2007. On April 3, 2007 Brown’s associates announced through People Magazine that a DNA test had confirmed that Murphy was the father of brown‘s child. In total Murphy has eight children five daughters and three sons.
Murphy married film producer Tracey Edmonds on the first day of 2008 at a remote Island off Bora Bora, however their marriage never received legal recognition.
Murphy has donated considerable sum of money for AIDS and Cancer relief.
